North Huntington, Pennsylvania and Janesville, Wisconsin--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ExOne Corporation (NASDAQ: XONE), a global leader in industrial sand and metal 3D printers using binder jet technology, announced today , SSI Sintered Specialties, a leading metallurgical solution partner, purchased the X1 160Pro and InnoventPro 3L metal binder injection system, which uses ExOne's patented triple advanced compaction technology (ACT).

The two ExOne printers are scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2022 and will be located at the company's headquarters in Janesville, Wisconsin. SSI's 250,000-square-foot facility also has the world's largest installed capacity of high-temperature sintering furnaces-the core of the metal binder injection process step-and post-processing technology that supports the mass production of metal binder injection.

Paul Hauck, Chief Operating Officer of SSI Sintered Specialties, said: "The addition of metal adhesive jetting to SSI's technology portfolio is the natural next step in providing our customers with the most advanced technology on the market to mass-produce complex geometries." The expertise and long tradition in pyrometallurgical processing are very suitable for adhesive jetting technology, and we are excited to work with ExOne to provide our customers with the future of metal 3D printing. "

SSI has more than 40 years of experience in powder metallurgy, and metal 3D printing adds to the company's existing capabilities in compacting and sintering powder metallurgy and non-traditional metal injection molding. With ExOne's 3D printers and SSI's furnace and sintering capabilities, this parts manufacturer will provide components of higher complexity and size that can be mass-produced without machining on various metals.

The investment in ExOne adhesive jetting technology is just one step of SSI's business strategy, which uses additive manufacturing and brings new manufacturing solutions to mass production.

"ExOne is pleased that our cutting-edge binder jetting technology has been adopted by such experienced powder metallurgy partners and high-quality parts suppliers such as SSI," said John Hartner, CEO of ExOne. "We look forward to promoting full-scale production of adhesive jets for our customers. They will now be able to release new value through innovative new designs that were once impossible to produce by traditional manufacturing or too costly to produce."

In addition to providing services to customers, SSI and ExOne will now cooperate in various adhesive injection materials, automation and process areas. SSI will use InnoventPro for material and application development, of which 160Pro is dedicated to mass production through a fully automated unit equipped with continuous sintering and state-of-the-art furnace equipment.

To date, ExOne has certified more than 20 materials for its adhesive jetting process, including 12 metals, 5 composite materials, and 4 ceramics. In addition to stainless steel and tool steels such as 17-4PH, 316L, M2, and H13, ExOne has also certified Inconel 625, aluminum 6061, copper, etc.

Binder jet additive manufacturing is a 3D printing method in which a digital file is used to quickly ink-jet a binder into a bed of powder particles (such as metal, sand, or ceramic) to create a solid part, one thin layer at a time. Print In the case of metal, the final bonded metal part must be sintered in a furnace to fuse the particles into a solid. Binder jetting is highly similar to MIM and PM manufacturing technology, except that the pre-sintered part is 3D printed instead of being formed by a press or molding. ExOne's Triple ACT ensures high consistency, repeatability and quality of printed parts.

With a build area of 220 x 125 x 100 mm (8.7 x 4.9 x 3.9 inches), InnoventPro 3L is scheduled to be delivered in the first half of 2022. It will become the world's most advanced metal adhesive jetting system, capable of printing ExOne's pioneering NanoFuse ™ Granular binder. X1 160Pro is the world's largest metal adhesive injection system, with a build area of 800 x 500 x 400 mm (31.5 x 19.7 x 15.8 inches) and provides the highest quality materials. Both systems use the same print head, so customers can easily extend their R&D on InnoventPro to use 160Pro for production.

ExOne has now sold multiple X1 160Pro printers to customers in the food and beverage, automotive, consumer goods and energy industries, and factory acceptance testing is in progress.
